Nail Care

A

bride’s beauty goes from the crown of her head all the way to her fingers and toes. Literally. A beautiful bride is not complete without the elegant touch of a manicure and pedicure. While this seems like a very minor detail which is hardly noticeable, it is actually this small detail which goes a long way in making a very polished and complete look.

A manicure is often called a spa treatment for the fingernails, and similarly a pedicure for the toenails. Manicures and pedicures are performed by a professional and often consists of the nail itself being expertly clipped, filed and shaped into the preferred length, then the hands and fingers soaked in a warm water solution to soften the skin and cuticles surrounding the nailbed.  Cuticles, or the surrounding skin of the nailbeds, are then carefully trimmed if necessary and pushed back to prevent future hangnails, sores and irritations.

Once finished, a base coat of clear polish is layered over the nail, followed by a polish in the color of choice of the client and completed with a top coat of clear polish to seal and protect the color coat as well as providing additional strength to the nail.

Some manicurists and pedicurists include a hand or foot massage as well to relax the client and increase circulation to the hands and feet for a mini-spa treatment experience.

But brides are not the only ones who can benefit from great looking nails. Hands and feet of the groom are also a very important detail to consider for the wedding day as he will be wearing his new ring, raising his glass in a toast and shaking hands with a myriad of guests. This detail will make him look polished and confident.

Bridesmaids and mothers are also great candidates for manicures and pedicures because it is a special day for them as well to stand out from the guests. It can be a fun and delightful way to spend time together as friends and sisters or even a genuine bonding time as mother and daughter before the wedding.

When considering where to go to get a manicure or pedicure, there are many places to choose from so a recommendation from a friend or family member would be a great place to start. Professional spas offer these services, or if on a budget, cosmetology schools provide very good service at lower rates.

In planning for a wedding day, it is worth the effort to attend to the small details.  Schedule in advance a manicure or pedicure for polished and confident presence from literally head to toe on one of the most special days of a lifetime.
